CALIFORNIA LAW FOR SCHOOLS — Whooping cough (pertussis) has been widespread in California and to help protect your children and others from whooping cough, a new California law now requires students to be vaccinated against whooping cough.
Since the 2017-18 school year, students entering 7th grade will need proof of the whooping cough booster shot (Tdap) before starting school.
- Can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine on or after the 7th birthday.
- Must provide a copy to the school
- Your child will not be placed on a class list until vaccine is confirmed
By law, students who do not have proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot will not be able to start school until proof is provided to the school. (The tetanus-diphtheria booster shot, Td, will not meet the requirement.)
